Chair yoga notes

Indulge in a rejuvenating chair yoga class that offers a unique blend of gentle stretches, mindful breathing, and relaxation techniques—all from the comfort of your chair. Accessible for all fitness levels and abilities, this class promotes flexibility, reduces stress, and enhances overall well-being. The practice can be all sitting on a chair or using the chair as a prop for balance and making other yoga poses accessible.

Chair yoga vs chair exercise.

While both chair yoga and chair exercises can improve flexibility and strength, only chair yoga focuses on incorporating mindfulness, breathing techniques, and relaxation.

Yoga breathing is primarily a nervous system management tool. Through speeding, slowing, or balancing your breath, you can very quickly affect change in your mental and emotional state, your nervous system, and this can cascade to your hormones as well.

YIN YOGA:

Wednesday evenings, 6:00pm, *Always check studio Facebook page to confirm*

While “yang” yoga focuses on your muscles, yin yoga targets your deep connective tissues, like your fascia, ligaments, and joints. It’s slower and more meditative, giving you space to turn inward and tune into both your mind and the physical sensations of your body. Because you’re holding poses for a longer period of time than you would in other traditional types of yoga, yin yoga helps you compress and lengthen connective tissues while also teaching you how to breathe through sensation and sit with your thoughts. This usually is an on the floor mat practice , but can be adapted to a chair based practice. Props can be utilized to maintain the pose to get the yin benefit of maintaining and holding the pose for the specified time of usually 3-5 minutes. When first starting a yin practice the hold time may only be 1-3 minutes.

REIKI SESSION OFFERINGS:

Reiki is a powerful, ancient Japanese healing technique that utilizes universal energy to promote balance, healing, and well-being in the body, mind, and spirit. By channeling this life force energy through gentle touch, it aids in reducing stress, enhancing relaxation, and supporting the body's natural healing processes. It's a non-invasive, holistic approach that complements traditional medical treatments and is accessible to everyone, regardless of age or health condition. Think of Reiki as a key that unlocks your body's nature healing capabilities, leading to a more healthy, and balanced life.

Reiki is used all over the world, including hospitals and hospices, to complement other forms of health treatments.

*** Reiki does not replace medical treatment. ***

Humble Warrior Yoga with Heather Guess
Certified Yoga Instructor, 200 YTT
I believe life is a journey of self-discovery & growth,
I believe in loving big and chasing after the life we are called to live.
I believe in fighting to find peace with who we are as we embrace who God has created us to be.
I believe that we are all uniquely made and that health is holistic - that we are all comprised of mind, body & spirit and that the body is designed with the capacity and ability to heal itself . . . just as our Maker intended.
Through my own journey of struggle, surrender, acceptance and victory, I have found that the practice of yoga not only helps me fulfill my purpose, but also offers an outlet for me to lead others in their journey. I deeply desire to see others stop living in the past or worrying about tomorrow by staying in the present. The practice of Yoga helps us do all of this: to become grounded in the truth of who we are, and who we are created to be, while keeping us at peace and mindful of the moment in which we find ourselves.
Through my own journey with marriage, parenting, aging-parents, and my own health, I have had to fight for the things I want most. I believe that there is a warrior in each of us, but that in our fight we must remain humble, and surrendered, in order to experience all that this life holds for us.
For me, the humble warrior I have become, is in large part to the people around me. Family is where I find my greatest purpose. I currently work as a chiropractic assistant in my husband's office, Five Point Chiropractic. While at home, Mama,is my favorite, and arguably, most important title. I love finding peace through time outside - working in our garden, walking in our woods, sitting by our pond, or just being outdoors with the people I love.

Meet me at the Museum: In the Garden

04-25-2023

Meet Me in the Garden (at the Museum)!

“Meet Me at the Museum” on April 25th from 12:00 to 1:00 PM for the Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum’s next installment of our lunchtime program! Bring a lunch or enjoy some snacks on us as we gather together and casually discuss a new topic each time we meet.

Our next meeting will be on April 25th. This is the time of year when our hearts and hands are in the garden. If you grow a garden or tend to houseplants or even just enjoy visiting gardens, bring a garden or plant-related story or object to share with us. We’ll be sharing some gardening items from the museum’s collection with you as well—maybe some Victory Garden posters from WWII, some Japanese prints depicting gardens, and a special pressed flower journal that belonged to one of the Johnson brothers.

No registration is needed. This program is offered at no charge and made possible with the support of the Joe R. Engle Museum Gallery Fund of the Coshocton Foundation.
