COSHOCTON – The warm temperatures and the search for the perfect candy brought hundreds of children and their families to Clary Gardens for the third annual trick or treat event.

Lily Tubbs, dressed as Dorothy, was at the event with her parents, Cassie and Jeremy Tubbs. “We did the pumpkin walk before this started. We are big Clary Gardens’ fans,” said Cassie. Lily was hoping for suckers and chocolate.

Adley Brown wanted Kit Kats and Reece Cups. She was there with her mom, Aimee, who said this was the first time they had come to the trick or treat event, but they had visited the gardens for other things.

Aspen Carleton was dressed as a pretty kitty and meowed to say “Trick or Treat.” She wanted peanut M & M’s and was there with four generations of her family – mom, Kali Carleton, Grandma Kim Hedrick and “Nana” Janet Snyder. “Aspen brought a flyer home from her preschool about this and we wanted to come,” said Kali.

Gary Chapman brought his twin sons, Myric who was a Power Ranger and wanted some candy corn and Kyran who was hoping for candy canes and was dressed as a ninja. Gary said the nice weather brought them to the event. “We usually trick or treat in Warsaw, but the weather is supposed to be bad tomorrow, so we came here.”

Costumed volunteers were stationed around the gardens to pass out candy. Crafts, games and snacks were also available.

Scarecrow WINNER Announcement Coming SOON

10-25-2018

Clary Gardens is pleased to announce the winner of the 3rd Annual Scarecrow Trail and Contest! “Our community has definitely stepped it up a notch,” stated Jandi Adams, director of the gardens.

“Some of the scarecrows, like the Leadership Coshocton County entry, give trail visitors a chance to get a ‘photo-op with the King of Pop’ where gloves, wigs and hats are available to get a selfie with 'Michael Jackson'. We have a ‘Garden Yogi’ promoting home yoga practice, with the scarecrow twisted into ‘Crow-pose’! 2018 even brought scarecrows that sing to you! The Coshocton Junior Woman’s Club created a Mary Poppins scarecrow that sings the iconic theme songs when you walk up to it. It’s quite amazing actually!”

Several repeat themes with new ’twists’ occurred and many groups had additional entries from last year’s competition. In 2016, a giant “Raven” from Raven’s Glenn Winery was the overall winner. “Wild Thing” debuted in 2017 featuring a Cleveland Indians baseball player by Century National Bank to claim the overall win. [**TEASER**]This year’s scarecrow winning entry by total votes on Facebook, email, voicemail, and in person, was a business participating for the first year in the Scarecrow Trail.

MGV's Plan Perennial Teaching Garden at Clary's

08-08-2018

Co-chairs Tracey Wiseman and Susan McCurdy are excited at the potential for the new "Teaching" garden at Clary Gardens. Educational workshops will start later THIS MONTH, with the first one titled: "Starting from Scratch" hosted by Clary Gardens at 6pm on August 23, 2018.

This garden is to be a partnership with the Clary Garden Foundation and the Coshocton County Master Gardener Volunteers. The purpose of this garden is to bring educational opportunities to the public and as an opportunity to the County Master Gardeners to be more involved with the "emerging botanical garden" in Coshocton County.

It should be noted that the Master Gardener Volunteers are not employees of the Clary Garden Foundation and that all works are done on a volunteer basis. The day-to-day maintenance of the garden will rely on the staff at Clary Gardens. The garden director, Jandi Adams, will be the liaison between Clary Gardens and the Coshocton County MGV's. If she is not available to attend one of the meetings, one of the co-chairs will advise on what is decided.

A PUBLIC/COMMUNITY MEETING IS BEING PLANNED FOR THURSDAY, AUGUST 23RD, AT 6PM. THIS IS A FREE EVENT AND ANYONE INTERESTED IN LEARNING HOW TO START A PERENNIAL GARDEN OR A FLOWER BED (FROM THE VERY BEGINNING) IS ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND. NO RSVP IS NEEDED.
